ICC holds workshop for CSOs in Uganda’s Lango region

ICC-CPI-20070223-202

Lira, Uganda, 23 February 2007

Representatives of civil society organisations from Uganda’s districts of Apac, Amolatar, Dokolo, Lira and Oyam, have recommended that the International Criminal Court intensifies the dissemination of information about its mandate and activities in the Lango sub-region.

The recommendation was made during a one-day informative workshop held 23 February in Lira town, Lira district. The workshop was held to broaden understanding of the ICC and bolster existing networks.

Officials from the Registry and the Office of the Prosecutor made presentations on the Court’s mandate, its investigation in Northern Uganda and how victims could participate in ICC proceedings. They also distributed information materials and listened to concerns presented by the participants.

At the workshop, mechanisms of dissemination of information on the Court were discussed and agreed. Participants strongly recommended the increased use of community radios as one the best means to deliver ICC messages in the sub-region.
