Dr. Renwen Liu is a Professor and Senior Research Fellow of Criminal Law and Policy at the Law Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) – an important think tank for the Chinese central government. Professor Liu also practices as a criminal lawyer in China.
He worked briefly as a judge, and has been a Visiting Professor at Columbia Law School, the Oxford Criminology Centre at Oxford University, Yale Law School, Singapore National University and Nottingham University.
His publications include several books, including one on Chinese criminal policy and one on Chinese criminal justice, as well as numerous papers on international criminal law and the ICC’s jurisdiction.
He is a contributor to the “Social Blue Book”, an annual publication of the CASS that reviews important social and political events.
Professor Liu received his bachelor’s degree from Chinese People’s Public Security University, and his master and doctorate law degrees from China University of Politics and Law. He completed his post-doctoral work at the Economics Institute of the CASS.
