Professor Wim Huisman is currently Professor of Criminology and chair of the Department of Criminal Law and Criminology at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. Prof. Huisman is a lawyer and a criminologist, and his PhD-thesis combined insights from law, criminology and organisational sciences to explain the differences in corporate compliance with environmental and safety regulations. Prof. Huisman’s work focuses particularly on the complicity of corporations with breaches of international criminal law and humanitarian law, and he is one of the initiators of the Amsterdam Center on International Crimes. Prof. Huisman published numerous articles on organisational crime, compliance and regulatory enforcement in various prominent journals including Erasmus Law Review, Crime & Justice and the Tijdschrift voor criminology (the Dutch Journal of Criminology). Prof Huisman has also contributed to various books, including a chapter on Corporations and International Crimes in Supranational Criminology: Towards a Criminology of International Crimes (2008) and Breaking the power of organized crime? The administrative approach in Amsterdam, in Organized crime: Culture, Markets and Policies (2008). Prof. Huisman is also an editor of the Dutch Journal of Criminology.
