Prof. Jean Michel Arrighi: "The Organization of American States and international law"

Prof. Arrighi is currently the Secretary for Legal Affairs of the Organization of American States and is presently in The Hague leading a course at The Hague Academy of International Law. Previously, Prof. Arrighi was the Director of Consumer Defense and former National Director of Commerce and Suppliers in Uruguay, legal adviser to the International Organization of Consumers Unions and legal adviser to the General Secretariat of the OAS. From 1996 to 2005, Prof. Arrighi served as the Director of the Department of International Law of the General Secretariat of the OAS, after which he became the Director of the Department of International Legal Affairs, before accepting his current appointment. Prof. Arrighi holds an Attorney and Doctor of Laws and Social Sciences from the Universidad de la República Oriental del Uruguay and Professor of Public International Law from the Universidad de la República and the Universidad Católica (Uruguay). Prof. Arrighi has previously lectured at various universities in Brazil and Argentina and led the OAS Course on International Law and the Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales of the University of Paris II (France). Prof. Arrighi was a founding member of the Instituto Ibero-Latinoamericano de Derecho del Consumidor and is a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Consumer Policy. Prof. Arrighi has authored numerous books and articles on international law, consumer law and inter-American law, published in journals in the Americas and Europe.
