Dr. Chantal Meloni is ricercatrice (senior research fellow) in criminal law at the University of Milan, Faculty of Law; she holds a PhD in criminal law and is a lawyer admitted to the Italian Bar and included in the list of assistant-counsels before the International Criminal Court. Since 2001 she specialized in international criminal law, focusing in particular on modes of liability for international crimes. She is the author of “Command Responsibility in International Criminal Law”, 2010, TMC Asser Press (The Hague). She worked at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, in 2007 as a Legal Assistant to the judges of Pre-trial Chamber, and in 2006 as a visiting professional in Chambers.
She was an intern at the International Human Rights Law Institute of the De Paul University of Chicago (USA) and she spent long research periods at the Humboldt Universität in Berlin, as a guest fellow of the International Criminal Law Institute. She published several articles in international legal journals and is author of chapters and entries in collective volumes. She is a member of several academic research projects on international criminal law and human rights law, among which the Marie Curie research course on “Fragmentation of international criminal law” at the Grotius Center for International Legal Studies (The Hague). She teaches at the LLM programme in International Crime and Justice of UNICRI (Turin) and regularly gives lectures and participates in seminars on (international) criminal law topics in various Universities.
