Patrick J. Treanor is a Research Officer with the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY-OTP) since 1994 where he has been a leader of the Leadership Research Team since February 1998. He has co-ordinated and led the analytical work on the comprehensive document collections (potential documentary evidence) of the ICTY-OTP (several million documents).
Mr. Treanor began his professional career as an Intelligence Analyst in the Federal Research Division of the US Library of Congress from 1977 to 1980 where he analyzed military and related affairs in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.
From late 1980 until 1994 he worked as a Historian and later Senior Historian in the Office of Special Investigations of the US Department of Justice. This Office investigates and litigates cases involving Nazi persecutors who are living in or attempting to gain entry to the United States. Among other cases, he worked on those of Andrija Artukovic and Kurt Waldheim.
Mr. Treanor’s educational background includes: a bachelor of arts degree in Modern Languages (College of the Holy Cross, Massachusetts, USA, 1968); a master of arts degree in Russian and East European Studies (Yale University, Connecticut, USA, 1970); and a doctorate of philosophy (University College, London, UK, 1999).
