Judge Liu Daqun

Judge Liu Daqun was appointed judge at the ICTY in 2000, being reelected twice since then - in 2001 and 2005 respectively. During his service, Judge Liu Daqun was elected Presiding Judge of Trial Chamber I. In 2005 he was assigned to the Appeals Chamber common to the ICTY and ICTR, where he currently serves.
Prior to his appointment to the ICTY, Judge Liu Daqun worked as Legal Adviser and Deputy Director General of the Treaty and Law department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
He took part in the negotiations of the Rome Statute and participated at the Rome Conference on the establishment of the International Criminal Court in 1998. Judge Liu Daqun holds many academic positions in and outside China, including the Vice-Presidency of the Chinese Society of International Law, and has published numerous articles and books on public international law and international criminal law.
