Judge Myjer has served as a Judge of the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg since November 2004 and as Professor of Human Rights at Free University of Amsterdam from 2000 onwards. Previously, His Honour held the distinguished positions of Deputy Prosecutor-General/Chief Advocate General at the Court of Appeal, Amsterdam; Advocate-General of the Court of Appeal, The Hague; Vice-President of the District Court of Zutphen and Judge of the District Court of Zutphen. Judge Myjer holds a Masters in Law degree from the University of Utrecht (NL), and has also served as Associate Professor of Criminal Law at the University of Leiden (NL). Judge Myjer has written and contributed to over thirty books, conference papers and commentaries; has co-edited several books including Human Rights Manual for Prosecutors (2003) and is a founding member of the editorial board for the Netherlands Humans Rights Law Review (NJCM-bulletin). In 2000, Judge Myjer was honoured as Officer in the Order of Orange-Nassau (NL), for work undertaken in the Netherlands in the field of human rights and in 2001 he received the Medal of Merit of the Council of Europe, for his contribution to the human rights education for members of the Dutch Judiciary.
