Judge Almiro Rodrigues (Portugal) is judge at the War Crimes Chamber of Bosnia and Herzegovina since June 2005. From 1997 to 2001, he served as a judge at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), presiding over Trial Chamber I (1999-2001) and the Working Group on Judicial Practices of the Committee on Rules of Procedure and Evidence.  

He was member of the International Commission of Inquiry established in 2004 by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to investigate human rights violations in Côte d'Ivoire. Prior to his election to the ICTY, he worked as a prosecutor in Portugal for more than twenty years, becoming Deputy Attorney General (1994-2001).  

He was also, for twelve years, Professor of law and Coordinator for the Department of Legal Psychology of the Legal Studies Centre in Lisbon and held the Chair of the Working Group on Adapting Portuguese Legislation to the ICC Statute.  

Judge Rodrigues’ educational background includes a degree in law and psychology. He has published extensively, including numerous articles on international criminal justice.
