Dr. Jean Allain was appointed as Senior Lecturer in Public International Law at Queen’s University of Belfast, Northern Ireland in 2004, having previously been Lecturer (1998), Assistant Professor (2000), and Associate Professor (2004), at the American University in Cairo.
He wrote his Master’s thesis at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights as a Fellow of the Organization of American States and completed his studies at the Institut universitaire de hautes études internationales of the University of Geneva. is dissertation was published as A Century of International Adjudication: the Rule of Law and its Limits, 2000.
Dr. Allain is also the author of International Law in the Middle East: Closer to Power than Justice, 2004, and the forthcoming The Slavery Conventions: The Travaux Préparatoires of the 1926 League of Nations Convention and the 1956 United Nations Convention, 2008. Dr. Allain is the co-Editor of the Irish Yearbook of International Law.
