Baroness Cox was appointed to the House of Lords in 1982 and was a Deputy Speaker from 1985 to 2005. She is Chancellor of Liverpool Hope University, a Vice President of the Royal College of Nursing and is heavily involved with international humanitarian work as Chief Executive of the Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust. She has received many honours for her humanitarian work including the Commander Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland and the Wilberforce Award. She has undertaken many missions to conflict zones, including Nagorno Karabakh, Sudan, Nigeria, Uganda, Burma, India and Indonesia. Her presentation will draw on over 30 visits to many regions in Sudan from 1985 to 2008.
