The Registrar exchanged letters with the Kenyan Government on the operational and legal framework essential for the Court’s operation in its territory

Today, 3 September, 2010, in Nairobi (Kenya), the Registrar of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Ms. Silvana Arbia, exchanged letters on the operational and legal framework that is essential for the Court to conduct its work in the territory of the Republic of Kenya. 

Mr. Moses Wetang’ula, Minister of Foreign Affairs, who is responsible for signing international agreements, presented to the Registrar the signed letter, in the presence of the members of the Cabinet’s Subcommittee, chaired by Minister Saitoti.

The Registrar stated: “I trust that the Government of Kenya will fully respect its obligations under the Rome Statute and will facilitate the important work of the Court”.

This exchange paves the way for effective work of the Court in Kenya, in particular with regard to its needs in the areas such as victim and witness protection, safety and security, and logistical support for its operations.
