Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Spouse of the German Federal President visit the International Criminal Court
On 10 June 2026, Her Majesty Queen Máxima of the Netherlands and Ms Elke Büdenbender, spouse of the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank Walter Steinmeier, visited the International Criminal Court (ICC). During their visit, they met with ICC President Judge Tomoko Akane and Registrar Osvaldo Zavala Giler.
This visit took place in the context of the official state visit to the Netherlands by President Steinmeier and his spouse, at the invitation of His Majesty the King, from 9 to 11 June 2026.
The visit to the ICC underscores Germany’s and the Netherlands’ continued commitment to the joint efforts deployed in the fight against impunity for perpetrators of the most serious crimes of concern to the international community as a whole.
