ICC Prosecutor and Prime Minister of Qatar to discuss cooperation

On January 29, International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo is in Qatar for a meeting with H.E. Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani, the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs for the State of Qatar.  

The Prosecutor regularly briefs all States on the four situations before the Court, in Northern Uganda, DRC, Darfur (Sudan) and the Central African Republic. He will provide an update on the activities of the Court and on other opportunities for continuing constructive exchanges with the Arab League as well as with its member States, on the promotion of international criminal justice.

Their contribution to the drafting of the Rome Statute was invaluable. Their support to the independence and impartiality of the Office’s work remains invaluable” said the Prosecutor. 

This meeting also takes place in the context of building relations with States not party to the Court“ he added. “Cooperation with all States is key to successfully performing our mandate”     

The International Criminal Court is an independent, permanent court that investigates and prosecutes persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
