Press conference: International Criminal Court and International Bar Association launch “Calling African Female Lawyers” campaign

The International Criminal Court (ICC), together with the International Bar Association (IBA), will hold a press conference to launch a joint campaign aimed at increasing the number of African women practicing as counsel at the ICC. The press conference will take place at the seat of the ICC in The Hague (The Netherlands) on 12 May, 2010, from 14:00 to 15:30 (The Hague, local time).

The press conference will be led by:

  • Ms Silvana Arbia, ICC Registrar
  • Mr Mark Ellis, IBA Executive Director
  • Ms Carine Bapita and Ms Hélène Cissé, Members of the ICC List of Counsel.

Confirmation to attend the press conference

Journalists wishing to attend the press conference are kindly invited to confirm their attendance by email to: [email protected] no later than 10 May.

Background information:

Special campaign information kits as well as background information on the ICC and the IBA will be distributed during the press conference.

Access to the ICC building

You are kindly advised to use the public entrance located on Regulusweg. All media are welcome to arrive from 13:00 onwards, but no later than 13:45.

Journalists will have access to the Media Centre.

Media Centre

The area can sit up to 64 people and includes plasma TV screens; a Wi-Fi internet service; cards (plug + play) for those without Wi-Fi capability in their PC or laptop; 6 computers with internet access; 7 telephones that may be used free of charge for internal calls. For external calls, journalists are advised to use their mobiles or purchase 0800 pre paid phone cards beforehand. Such cards are available at newsagents and train stations. Please note that phone cards cannot be obtained in the vicinity of, or at, the ICC. Mobile phones cannot be used in the public gallery.

Parking facilities

Parking facilities are available for media representatives at the Regulusweg and Wegastraat car park.
