ICC Permanent Premises celebrates reaching its highest point
On 27 November 2014, the International Criminal Court (ICC) Permanent Premises Project celebrated the important milestone of the highest point of the construction of the new building.
This achievement was celebrated during a ceremony at the construction site, attended by representatives of all the parties involved in the construction activities of the new ICC premises, including the ICC Project Team, Courtys' construction and design teams, and all of the project subcontractors.
This ceremony, which marked the completion of the steel frame that is built around the Court Tower – the highest point of the structure, was marked by raising the construction team's flag at that highest point. It was held in recognition of the enormous effort the construction team has put into ensuring the new premises remains on track, to be completed on schedule and within budget in the 3rd quarter of 2015.
In his speech, ICC Permanent Premises Director Neil Bradley stated that "this hugely important building will soon become the home of the ICC and for the next generation will be instantly recognised throughout the world as an important symbol of the quest for peace and justice".
After just one and a half years of construction work, beginning in April 2013, the new ICC premises is now a major step closer to completion, with the façade complete and the remaining projects – landscaping and finishing the interior spaces – well under way.
Over 300 people who are currently working on the realisation of the ICC Permanent Premises attended the celebration, including engineers, architects, project managers and many of the specialist construction workers all of whom work collaboratively and simultaneously on different parts of the complex construction project.

About the ICC Permanent Premises Project
The ICC Permanent Premises Project's is tasked with constructing the permanent headquarters of the International Criminal Court. As a permanent judicial institution, the ICC requires functional permanent premises, which enable the Court to execute its duties effectively and reflect the significance of the ICC in the global fight against impunity for the gravest crimes of concern to the entire international community.
The ICC's new premises are located on the former Alexander barracks site and consist of six connected buildings, with the Court Tower standing in the middle. The new premises has 54,600m² of floor space, 72,000m² of landscape, 1200 workstations and 3 courtrooms. Construction will be completed towards the end of 2015, at which point the ICC will move into its new permanent home.

Op 27 november 2014 heeft de nieuwe permanente huisvesting van het Internationaal Strafhof (International Criminal Court, ICC) een belangrijke mijlpaal gevierd met het bereiken van het hoogste punt.
Dit hoogtepunt werd gevierd met een festiviteit op de bouwplaats die werd bijgewoond door vertegenwoordigers van alle partijen die betrokken zijn bij de bouw van het nieuwe ICC-gebouw, waaronder het ICC Projectteam, het bouw- en ontwerpteam van Courtys en alle onderaannemers van Courtys.
Tijdens de ceremonie werd gevierd dat met het oprichten van het stalen frame rond de Court Tower het hoogste punt van de structuur was bereikt. Met het hijsen van de vlag van het constructieteam op het hoogste punt werd de enorme inspanning erkend om de bouw van het nieuwe onderkomen volgens schema en binnen het budget in het derde kwartaal van 2015 te voltooien.
In zijn toespraak zei Neil Bradley, directeur van ICC: "Dit ongelooflijk belangrijke gebouw zal zeer binnenkort de thuisbasis van het Internationaal Strafhof zijn en zal wereldwijd voor de volgende generatie fungeren als een belangrijk symbool voor de zoektocht naar vrede en gerechtigheid."
Sinds de aanvang van de bouwwerkzaamheden in april 2013 en na slechts anderhalf jaar bouwen is de nieuwbouw van het Internationaal Strafhof een belangrijke stap dichter bij de voltooiing gekomen. De contouren van de gebouwen zijn gereed en de werkzaamheden aan de omgeving rondom het gebouwencomplex en de constructie en voltooiing van de binnenruimtes zijn een flink eind op weg.
Meer dan driehonderd mensen die momenteel werken aan de realisatie van het Internationaal Strafhof woonden de festiviteiten bij, waaronder ingenieurs, architecten, projectmanagers en velen van de gespecialiseerde bouwarbeiders die allemaal gezamenlijk en gelijktijdig werken aan verschillende delen van dit complexe bouwproject.

Het Internationaal Strafhof
Het Internationaal Strafhof (International Criminal Court, ICC) is een permanent hof voor het vervolgen van mensen die verdacht worden van oorlogsmisdaden, misdaden tegen de menselijkheid en genocide. Het ambitieuze programma voor de nieuwbouw voor de huisvesting van het ICC weerspiegelt de internationale betekenis van deze organisatie.
De nieuwe permanente huisvesting van het ICC
Het belangrijkste doel van het project is de bouw van het permanente hoofdkwartier van het Internationaal Strafhof. Omdat het ICC een permanente gerechtelijke instelling is, was een permanente vestiging noodzakelijk om de rechtbank in staat te stellen haar taken effectief uit te voeren. Tegelijkertijd staat het nieuwe onderkomen symbool voor de betekenis van het ICC in de wereldwijde strijd tegen straffeloosheid voor de ernstigste misdrijven waarmee de internationale gemeenschap wordt geconfronteerd.
Het nieuwe gebouw van het Internationaal Strafhof bevindt zich op de plaats van de voormalige Alexanderkazerne en bestaat uit zes onderling verbonden gebouwen rond de centrale Court Tower. Het nieuwe pand bevat 54.600 m² vloeroppervlakte, 72.000 m² landschap, 1200 werkplekken en drie rechtszalen. De bouw zal tegen het eind van 2015 voltooid zijn, waarna het ICC haar nieuwe permanente onderkomen zal betrekken.
