ICC Prosecutor visits Colombia

On October 17 – 19, upon the invitation of the Government of Colombia, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Luis Moreno-Ocampo will lead an ICC delegation and conduct a visit to Colombia. The Prosecutor will deliver a speech at the closing event of the Pan-American Congress of Human Rights. He will meet with Colombian judges, prosecutors, government officials, as well as with representatives of victims and local NGOs to discuss relevant justice issues, including the implementation of the Law on Justice and Peace.
In Bogotá, the Prosecutor will deliver a speech at an academic event which will take place at the Gimnasio Moderno on the occasion of the Inter-American Court’s 31st Extraordinary Period Of Sessions.
The International Criminal Court is an independent, permanent court that investigates and prosecutes persons accused of the most serious crimes of international concern, namely genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes if national authorities with jurisdiction are unwilling or unable to do so genuinely. The Office of the Prosecutor is currently investigating in four situations: The Democratic Republic of Congo, Northern Uganda, the Darfur Region of Sudan, and the Central African Republic, all still engulfed in various degrees of conflict with victims in urgent need of protection.
