ICC hosts meeting on sexual and gender violence crimes

The International Criminal Court is hosting an expert meeting regarding the investigation of sexual and gender violence crimes on Wednesday, 24 May.

The purpose of the meeting is to discuss different strategies and approaches to the challenges involved in investigating this type of crime, with a panel of international experts. This seminar is part of our ongoing commitment to develop expertise in particular areas of international criminal law. 

This meeting will be an internal workshop involving participants from the ICC, International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, Special Court for Sierra Leone, selected NGOs and experts.

These experts include:
Ms. Cherie Booth, Queen’s Counsel with London’s Matrix Chambers law firm;

Dr. Tara Gingerich, Director of Programs and Administration for the Harvard Humanitarian Initiative at the Harvard School of Public Health;

Ms. Charity Kagwi-Ndungu of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda;

Ms. Chen Reis, Programme Officer at the World Health Organization’s Department of Gender, Women, and Health, and formerly of Physicians for Human Rights;

Ms. Miatta Samba of the Special Court for Sierra Leone; and

Ms. Patricia Sellers, the Gender Legal Advisor and Trial Attorney at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia.
