ICC holds workshop with Clan leaders from Uganda’s Amuria district

Seventy clan leaders from Uganda’s Amuria district have agreed to strengthen participation of local communities in activities of the International Criminal Court. The decision was reached at a one-day informative workshop held on 6 February in Soroti town, Soroti district.

The workshop, organised by the Registry, was held to broaden the understanding of the Court and bolster existing outreach networks.

Officials from the Registry responded to concerns expressed by participants and distributed information on how victims could take part in the Court’s proceedings.

Participants recommended the creation of information focal points within existing civil society networks to increase access to ICC materials at the grassroots levels. They also emphasised a need for established networks to handle victims’ issues with the required confidentiality.

The clan leaders noted the importance of utilising cultural drama groups to convey messages about the Court amongst concerned communities.
