ICC Holds Informative Workshop in Northern-Eastern Uganda with Iteso Cultural Leaders

On 22 and 23 June 2006, the International Criminal Court invited representatives of the Iteso cultural leadership to an informative workshop in Soroti, North-Eastern Uganda. The aim of the workshop was to provide information about the ICC, listen to concerns and to discuss means of disseminating information to the broader community.
The participants included 50 cultural leaders from the Teso sub-region. The workshop was organized by the Iteso Cultural Union and attended by His Highness Emorimor Papa Iteso Augustine Osuban.
During the workshop ICC staff provided documents on the ICC, information on its investigation in Northern Uganda and information on how victims can participate in Court proceedings.
The cultural leaders agreed on the need to disseminate information and sensitize the population on the ICC. The leaders decided to use their existing infrastructure under the Iteso Cultural Union to disseminate information on the ICC through meetings as well as through the media.
The cultural leaders support the ICC in their efforts to apprehend Joseph Kony and his top four commanders. The leaders renew their call for all the others in the LRA to return home.
The cultural leaders also expressed concern in regards to the continuing violence perpetrated by the Karamajong warriors.
