ICC conducts training sessions for journalists from northern Uganda

A one day training session was held by International Criminal Court (ICC) officials for media house representatives and local civil servants working in the Lango and Acholi sub-regions of Gulu in northern Uganda. The interactive meeting held on 22 August, attended by 30 participants including journalists from both the electronic and print media and district information officers, was organised as part of the Court’s outreach strategy to raise awareness of the Court’s activities in the situation in Uganda. 

The training session, held in collaboration with the Ugandan Media Development Foundation, was used to discuss methods of disseminating information about the ICC, as well as explain its current activities in the area. Court officials addressed any misconceptions by responding directly to the enquiries of the participants and providing accurate information. ICC materials in English and Luo were also circulated during the training session.

Journalists attending the training invited the Court to return as soon as possible to expand on selected issues in more detail. They also committed themselves to provide accurate information when reporting on the work of the ICC in Uganda.
