First meeting of the Board of Directors of the Trust Fund for Victims at the ICC

The First meeting of the Board of Directors of the Trust Fund for Victims (TFV) will take place at the seat of the Court from the 20th to the 22nd of April 2004. During this meeting, guidelines regarding a number of issues including the jurisdiction of the Fund, its management, and criteria for the receipt of funds, will be considered.

The five members of the Board of Directors of the TFV are: Her Majesty Queen Rania Al-Abdullah (Jordan); H.E. Dr. Oscar Arias Sánchez (Costa Rica); H.E. Mr. Tadeusz Mazowiecki (Poland); H.G. Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu (South Africa) and Madam Minister Simone Veil (France). They were elected for a three year period last September by acclamation by the Assembly of States Parties.

The Trust Fund for Victims (TVF) was established by article 79 of the Rome Statute for the benefit of victims of crimes within the jurisdiction of the Court, and of the families of such victims.

During these technical meetings there will be no media opportunities.

Ceremony:

On the 22nd of April, at the Nederlands Congress Centrum, a ceremony will be held to mark the first meeting of the Board.

The ceremony will commence at 4:00 p.m. and will last approximately 80 minutes. Members of the Diplomatic Corps, Intergovernmental Organisations, Non-Governmental Organisations, law professors and media representatives are among the invitees.

Statements on behalf of the International Criminal Court, the Board of Directors of the Trust Fund for Victims, and victims themselves will be delivered.

The ceremony will include moments of reflection to promote reflection and pay tribute to victims of crimes under the jurisdiction of the International Criminal Court.

The ceremony will be followed by a reception.

Media representatives interested in attending the ceremony must reply to this e-mail by the 21st of April, at the latest, by sending all their contact details to [email protected]. The entrance to the ceremony will be limited to journalists with accreditation.

Before the ceremony begins a photo opportunity will be organised. Photographers and camera crews must also request accreditation.

Please note that during the ceremony no video recordings or photographs will be allowed.
