ICC distributes 200,000 copies of the booklet <i>Understanding the ICC</i>

In Kenya today, 4 September, the International Criminal Court (ICC) distributed 200,000 copies of the publication Understanding the ICC, reaching a population estimated at 20 million. The booklet, which was circulated with one of the most popular newspapers in the country, explains the Court’s mandate, structure and mode of operations. It answers questions frequently asked by participants during informative sessions held by Court’s officials in Kenya.

Commenting on the booklet, the ICC Registrar Silvana Arbia said that, “the Court is committed to making all necessary efforts to inform the public about the Court’s mandate and its work. With the information presented in the booklet, I hope that many Kenyans will find answers to their questions. A well-informed public can contribute to ensuring lasting respect for international justice and, through its enforcement, the prevention of crimes”.

The Registrar today concluded a four-day official visit to Kenya, where she met relevant national authorities to discuss the operational and legal framework needed to conduct Registry activities in Kenya.
