Court launches mass outreach for IDP camps in Adjumani District

Seventy leaders from the Internally Displaced People’s camps of Adjumani district, West Nile region, have committed to hold mass community meetings to provide information and explain the mandate and activities of the International Criminal Court. The decision was made during a one-day workshop held on 4th May 2007 for leaders from the Internally Displaced People’s camps of Lewa and Indriani in Pakele sub-county, Zoka and Itirikwa in Ofua sub-county, Masa and Kukulu in Ciforo sub-county and Arinyapi and Ogolo in Dzaipi sub-county.
The workshop, which took place in Adjumani town, was meant to launch the Court’s mass outreach efforts within communities most directly affected by the conflict in Northern Uganda.
Officials from the Registry and the Office of the Prosecutor made presentations on the Court’s mandate, its investigation in Northern Uganda and how victims could participate in ICC proceedings. They also distributed information materials and addressed concerns presented by the participants.
The Chairperson of Adjumani District Council, Mr. Angel Mark Dulu, encouraged Court officials to expedite the conducting of mass outreach inside selected IDP camps.
